We all know the Ihram as the sacred state in which Muslims have to enter before performing Umrah and Hajj. We all know Ihram as unstitched clothing in simple white sheets for men. But it is more than just clothing. It’s a garment that makes you realise purity’s importance and spiritual journey. As Muslims wear Ihram, they have to refrain from the acts of scented products, intimacy, arguments, and killing of animals.
It is said that just like men, women must wear garments. But that’s not true at all! Women can wear any modest clothing in any colour, but it has to be plain with no embroidery work. The garment should cover the body entirely, including the head. Their face and hands have to be visible.
Miqat is the designated point after which the Ihram journey will start. Some Muslims prefer to wear the Ihram at this point, but if travelling by air, you can wear it before reaching the Miqat. You can wear it after intending to follow the proper boundary line.
According to some Muslims, you cannot use shampoo as well as soap during Ihram. This is just a myth. If your shampoo and soap has no fragrance, you can use it without any restrictions. Only scented items are prohibited. Unscented soap, shampoo, as well as hygiene products are best used to maintain cleanliness.

Pilgrims should have their focus on performing worshipping, but discussing daily matters or chores does not break the act of Ihram. Hence, you should avoid any foul language, arguments, or gossip.
Ihram is required for certain rituals of Hajj and Umrah, but pilgrims do not have to remain in Ihram for the entire journey. Once the rituals are completed, pilgrims can leave the state of Ihram by performing Tahallul.
You can apply perfume only before making the intention. Once you have made the intention (niyyah), you cannot use any scented fragrance. Perfume is wholly prohibited in the Ihra of Ihram.
It is forbidden in Ihram to kill, harm, or hunt for animals. You cannot even kill an insect unless it threatens you. Thus, the unnecessary killing of insects is discouraged.
In the state of Ihram, trimming of hair and nails is not allowed. You can only cut them after the completion of Ihram with an electric shaver or razor.
Wearing Ihram in stitched pattern is not allowed. You must wear it in stitch plain white sheet with no buttons, seams or embroidery work.
Men are not allowed to wear socks or shoes during Ihram. You can only wear sandals or comfortable slippers that do not cover your ankles.
